Video Age International October 2016
30 October 2016 V I D E O A G E buyers cherry picked only our premium series. As for the length of the stay, we always do two [out of the three] days, as the last day has never been effective for us.” For Eccho Rights’ Barbora Susterova, “We met most buyers from the Balkan countries, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, and most of our buyers were shopping for scripted content. Even though the venue was better than last year in Prague, it would be good to attract attention to the lack of Polish buyers. There were also very few Russians, and there were clients on the list of ‘Attending Buyers’ who didn’t even show up. We had two full days of the market.” Melissa Pillow, vp of Sales for Europe, Telemundo Internacional, had a slightly different experience: “I would congratulate the organization for bringing the market to Budapest once again. For the market [it is] important to continue developing its website. Additionally, a weekly update of participating attendees to seller’s emails would be very useful. “In terms of CEE buyers, surprisingly, I had the highest number of meetings with buyers from Poland, contrary to all previous Discop and NATPE Europe markets. [But] I expected to see more buyers from ex-Yugoslavia, but I imagine many were not present due to the NEM market in Croatia earlier in the month,” Pillow said. A Latin exhibitor who preferred not to be named reported that Budapest was better than Prague and that they did not find clients from Ukraine or Armenia. However, she met with buyers from Hungary, Serbia and Greece. For her, NATPE Budapest was a two-and-half day market. “Telenovelaswithclassicplots and female leads were the most sought after content. The major problem was the difficulty in arranging meetings with key clients because they were coming only for the U.S. majors screenings or had little time to have meetings outside their screenings. So our agenda was not as good as expected, and, for what I heard, this situation was the same with other Latin exhibitors,” she concluded. Meeting tables extended to NATPE’s reception area on the first floor of the InterContinental Hotel.
