32 October 2015 V I D E O A G E MIPCOM Preview it more affordable to deal with smaller territories.” He called Turkey, MIPCOM’s honored country, “a great market, potentially. Strategically, it’s important. They have a big economy, but we haven’t done a huge amount of business there.” But his company is looking into bringing some Turkish formats to the U.S. he said. Israel’s Armoza Formats, for one, is bringing fresh formats, including The Virgins, Double or Nothing and Live FromMy Home , as well as dramas Zagouri Empire and Karl &Max . “The rise of new distribution channels and platforms has also had a substantial impact on the industry, creating a larger demand for content, and especially for scripted drama through allowing audiences the ability to binge view. With this in mind, we are bringing two new dramas to the market,” said Avi Armoza, the company’s CEO. Armoza Formats reach over 30 countries, but Armoza said “with the current exponential growth of the Latin American and Chinese markets, we see huge potential in these markets and are focusing on them accordingly.” A + E’s Denton laments the fact that he doesn’t often get to the sessions at MIPCOM, since he’s too busy selling. “Maybe they could do more breakfast briefings,” he suggested. He said he’d also like more of a focus on formats, and the business of selling them. Marielle Zuccarelli, EVP International Distribution for Sonar Entertainment, shared the same concern about the sessions, noting that, “Sellers rarely have the opportunity to attend the conferences and key notes, as we have back to back meetings with buyers.” She added, “It wouldbehelpfuliftheconferenceschedule is organized in a way that addresses this conflict.” Zuccarelli admitted notable growth in the digital area of distribution and praised the appetites for product. In regard to Turkey, Arabelle Pouliot-Di Crescenzo, managing director of Paris-based KABO International, said: “The country has established itself as an important player in the TV market both in adapting foreign formats and in development as well.” Germany’s Studio 100 Media has had a strong relationship with Turkish public broadcaster TRT for years, said company’s CEO, Patrick Elmendorff. “TRT first aired our original classics Maya The Bee , Vic the Viking and Heidi .
