And They’re Only The Beginning The New 2016-17 U.S. TV Series and one on the Unabomber, among others (thank the popularity of Making a Murderer and The Jinx for that), and there are also several twists on already established films and TV shows (e.g. Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer remake and reboots of both 24 and Prison Break at FOX). And, as far as the advertising market is concerned, early predictions from media buyers suggest that TV ad-spending commitments could increase anywhere from three percent to five W hile we have yet to hear from the U.S. broadcast networks about their full TV slates this year, below is a list of the 91 scripted series pick-ups from cable, 41 from streaming services and 14 from broadcast networks, which have already been announced as of press time. In terms of trends, this year we’re seeing more dramas based on true crime, including the series based on the stories of the Menendez Brothers ABC Designated Survivor (Drama) A conspiracy thriller about a low-level U.S. cabinet member who is suddenly appointed president after an attack during the State of the Union kills everyone above him. ADULT SWIM Dream Corp LLC (Animated Comedy) An animated series following the “absent-minded” Dr. Roberts and a team of lackluster analysts at a neglected dream-therapy facility. AMAZON Danger & Eggs (Animated) When a young girl takes on dangerous stunts, her best friend, an anthropomorphic egg named Phillip, helps manage her safety. Good Girls Revolt (Drama) Set in 1969, the series centers around a group of young female researchers at a newspaper. Highston (Comedy) 19-year-old Highston Liggetts has a wide circle of celebrity friends — that only he can see. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (Animated) Follows the adventures of Mouse, Oliver and other familiar friends; based on the classic children’s book. Jack Ryan (Drama) Based on Tom Clancy’s popular CIA hero. Niko and the Sword of Light (Animated) 10 -year-old Niko is the last of his kind in a strange, fantastical world; he embarks on an epic quest to defeat the darkness and bring the light back. One Mississippi (Comedy) A semi-autobiographical account of Tig Notaro’s return home after her mother died and she was diagnosed with cancer. Patriot (Drama) A thriller that follows an intelligence officer, whose latest assignment is to prevent Iran from going nuclear. Sneaky Pete (Drama) After leaving prison, a conman takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his cell-mate, Pete. Trial (Drama) Adown-and-out lawyerseeksredemptionand justice ina legalsystem wherethescalesof justiceareweighedtowardtherichandpowerful. Untitled Woody Allen series (Comedy) Miley Cyrus will star in the series, set in the 1960s. Z: The Beginning of Everything (Drama) Based on the life of Zelda Fitzgerald, the Southern Belle who becomes the original flapper and an icon of the 1920s Jazz Age. AMC Feed the Beast (Drama) Centers around two best friends who take one last shot at their dream of opening a restaurant. The Son (Drama) Chartsthemulti-generationalriseand fallofa family’sTexasoilempire. The Terror (Drama) Set in 1847, when a royal navy expedition crew is attacked by a mysterious predator. BBC America Class (Drama) A companion series to Doctor Who. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (Drama) Based on a series of comic novels following a hyper and absurd detective. The Living and the Dead (Drama) A supernatural drama set in Somerset, England, a community on the edge of monumental change. Undercover (Drama) A limited series about a woman about to become the first black woman in England to hold the highest public prosecutor role. BRAVO My So Called Wife (Drama) A dark comedy about a master of disguise who gets people to fall in love with her, marries them and disappears with their money and enough dirt to guarantee they never go to the police. True Fiction (Drama) A once best-selling novelist turned college professor uses the sudden death of her most arrogant and hated student as an opportunity to claim his manuscript as her own. CARTOON NETWORK Bill & Tony (Animated Comedy) A nonverbal Claymation action series. Justice League Action (Animated Comedy) Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman fight their biggest enemies in this quarter-hour series. The Sketchy Show (Animated Comedy) Takes kids’ drawings and turns them into animated shorts. CBS American Gothic (Drama) A murder-mystery drama set among a prominent family in Boston grappling with the fact that their recently deceased patriarch may have been a serial killer. BrainDead (Drama) A one-hour comic-thriller following a young, fresh-faced Capitol Hill staffer getting her first job in D.C. Untitled Kevin James Project (Comedy) A newly retired police officer discover faces much tougher challenges at home than on the streets. COMEDY CENTRAL Detroiters (Comedy) Small-time ad men look to turn their hometown of Detroit around. Jeff and Some Aliens (Animated Comedy) An animated series and spin-off of Triptank, about the world’s most average guy and three aliens that follow him. Legends of Chamberlain Heights (Comedy) Anurbananimatedseriesthat focusesonthreehighschool freshmen. CRACKLE Snatch (Drama) Based on the 2010 Guy Ritchie heist movie. Start Up (Drama) Set in Miami, follows a brilliant but controversial tech idea that gets incubated on the wrong side of the tracks. DISCOVERY CHANNEL Manifesto (Drama) How the FBI brought down Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber; told from the point of view of an FBI profiler. DISNEY CHANNEL Bizaardvark (Comedy) Revolves around two 13-year-old best friends, Paige and Frankie, who write funny songs and create music videos for their online channel, Bizaardvark. Tangled: Before and After (Animated) A spin-off of the movie about Rapunzel. E! The Arrangement (Drama) A young actress tries out for a summer blockbuster and ends up dating the hot male star. EPIX Berlin Station (Drama) A newly anointed case officer has arrived at the CIA station in Berlin to uncover the source of a leak who has supplied information to a whistleblower. Graves (Comedy) A political satire that centers on former U.S. president Richard Graves who embarks on a quest to right his wrongs. FOX 24: Legacy (Drama) Next chapter in the long-running action series. Prison Break (Drama) A new event series based on the popular show. Shots Fired (Drama) A dramatic event series that explores the dangerous aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small Southern town. percent across this year’s Upfront market. The increasing ad spending is attributed to the fact that last year many advertisers who reduced their commitments at the Upfronts ended up paying up to 20 percent more for commercial time in the scatter market. Plus, according to the Wall Street Journal , some advertisers like Procter & Gamble are coming back to TV because the return on their digital media investments didn’t live up to expectations.
