Because you have no rights, anyway! U.S. airlines are not held re- sponsible for a variety of delays, including those caused by bad weather (even if they could have been prepared to deal with it). They are not responsible for can- cellations, even when it’s their fault. And they are not obligated to let you choose your seat. Their only responsibility in a de-regulated environment is to take you from point A to point B, charging as much as they can in the process. Oh, and to get you there without crashing, of course.
