18 Event Planner & Travel News December 2020 V I D E O A G E COVID-19 Tests At U.S. Airports To Avoid Quarantine S ince October 15, visitors to Hawaii were able to avoid the state’s mandatory qua- rantine if they tested negative for COVID-19 no more than 72 hours before arrival. This requirement prompted U.S. airlines and airports to offer rapid testing for COVID-19. United is the first carrier to offer tests (for a fee) to passengers. American is also planning to implement the same service. In addition, travelers from JFK in New York City and Newark Liberty in New Jersey can be tested at Xpress Check’s airport kiosks, part of the Xpress-Spa airport massage and manicure chain. Other U.S. airports are also adding testing facilities, such as Bradley (which is located near Hartford, Connecticut); Oakland, California; and Tampa, Florida. In addition to Hawaii, the Caribbean started accepting vi- sitors who were able to produce results for negative tests within 72 hours of arrival. Bermuda requires a negative test before departure and upon arrival. And in Germany, Lufthansa’s air traffic jumped when airports in Munich and Frankfurt began offering COVID-19 testing.
